Horse Mackerel, or Carapau in Portuguese, is a small to medium-sized (up to 45 cm) fish that can be found in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is known by many names, but in this particular recipe, we will be using the smaller versions - Carapauzinhos or Jaquinzinhos (little jacks).
Other important facts to keep in mind are that Horse Mackerels have a firm texture, mild flavor and are a rich source of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins and minerals. The fish is also affordable, making it a popular choice for families and restaurants alike.
